Panforte di Siena

A traditional Italian Christmas Cake filled with dried fruit and nuts!

Panforte di Siena is a traditional Italian Christmas Cake recipe. Made with dried fruit, nuts, and spices, you'll love the chewy texture!

You'll need hazelnuts, almonds, honey, sugar, flour, cocoa powder, spices, and dried fruit.

In a food processor, dice the dried figs, candied citron, and dried apricots, if using.

Pour the diced dried fruit into a large mixing bowl. You can also dice by hand.

Roast the almonds and hazelnuts on a baking sheet in the oven for 10 minutes until fragrant.

Toss the fruit with the spices, cocoa powder, and flour. Add in the toasted nuts and toss.

Heat the sugar and honey in a saucepan until hot and bubbly. Pour into the fruit and nut mixture and combine.

Press the panforte mixture into a greased and lined springform pan. Bake for 30 minutes.

Let the panforte cool and then remove the collar from the pan. Once cooled, sprinkle with powdered sugar.

Slice into small wedges and serve with hot coffee or tea. Panforte stay fresh for days and are great for Christmas!
